Embracing My Heritage

Indian inspired look
I don't know if I mentioned before that I'm half Polish and half Indian. While growing up in Poland, I was often asked where I was from. Despite the fact that I spoke fluent Polish and was born in a city that is located 2 hours away from the capital, some people treated me like an outsider. For them I didn't look like a typical Polish girl. I had olive skin and dark hair. At some point I was even bullied at school due to my looks.

For long I felt like some kind of an exotic mix. The way people responded to the way I looked really knocked down my confidence. I didn't like my hair, my skin and eyes. It sounds silly but I often wished I could wave a magic wand and transform myself into someone else.

Now as an almost 30 year-old woman, I fully embrace my heritage. I call myself a hybrid. Although I still meet people who are racist or judgemental, I don't care what they think about me. I'm proud to be half Polish and half Indian.
