Look of the Day: Cigarette Trousers

cigarette trousers and biker jacket
Happy Monday! I hope you're having a great Bank Holiday weekend. Are you doing anything exciting?

I did a small inventory of my wardrobe on Saturday and realised I own 4 pairs of black and white cigarette trousers. Oops...I posted a picture of them on my Instagram page if anyone is curious.

Cigarette trousers have recently become my new off duty uniform as they are so comfortable and easy to style. Yesterday I paired them with a simple black top, a pair of red low heels and a biker jacket that you could see a glimpse of here

Do you own cigarette trousers? How do you wear them?

New In

Although I've always been rather frugal about spending too much money on clothes, this month I just can't stop shopping. I don't know if it's something in the air or what but I can't resist the urge to buy the things I see. I think I'm slowly turning into a shopaholic.

Here is what I recently added to my wardrobe...

New Look slingbacks
I'm a self-proclaimed lover of shoes and a firm believer that the right footwear can make an outfit. So when I spotted these gorgeous slingbacks while browsing  the sale section of the New Look website, I just knew they would make a great addition to my ever growing shoe collection. Can you believe they were only £10? I can totally imagine wearing them with a great party dress or jeans and a blazer for a smart casual look.

Speaking of blazers, I recently discovered a little shop on my high street which stocks one of a kind items in selected sizes.

cropped blazer

Among the things I discovered there, were this cropped blazer and a top you can see below. Both pieces have fun prints that remind me of tapestries my Gran used to keep in her house.

What do you think of my latest buys? Have you bought anything recently? Let me know in the comments below.

Breton Top

Chic work outfit with a breton top
Do you know a woman who doesn't own a breton top? I don't. This simple garment, first introduced in 1858 as the uniform for all French navy seaman in Brittany, quickly evolved and became a hero buy thanks to Coco Chanel who brought it to the attention of the fashion world.

I think it's safe to say that the breton top will never go out of style. It goes with pretty much everything we have in our wardrobes so for today's look I decided to team it with black trousers and Chanel-esque blazer.

Of course, I wouldn't be myself if I didn't add a pop of colour to my outfit. This time I opted for green heels that I bought ages ago in the New Look sale.

Problems Tall Girls Will Understand

Problems tall girls will understand
Do you ever find yourself scouring shops to find something in particular and not having much luck? That happened to me a few months ago when I was looking for a perfect shirt dress I could wear in the summer.

Although they were available in most high street shops, I couldn't find the one. The biggest problem I encountered was with the length as some of the dresses barely covered my thighs. Then when I was about to give up my search, I stumbled across the F&F dress I'm showing you today. It could have been slightly longer but beggars can't be choosers.

That experience inspired me to write today's post and share with you some of my #tallgirlproblems. At 5'9" I'm not a giant but there've been times I wished I was a bit shorter.

Trying to find a dress that is decent length
It seems that some retailers have forgotten about women who are tall. There are some shops on high street where I don't even step my foot in as I know that dresses they stock will look like shirts on me.

Trying to find jeans that aren't capri trousers
Dear retailers, can you please expand your tall section?

'How is the weather up there?' question
Seriously? I'm not even that tall.

'You're tall. Why do you wear heels?' question
I don't care how tall I am. I love heels.

When your online date turns out to be shorter than you although he claimed he is 6'00"
If you follow me regularly you may have seen a post about my struggles with online dating (here). My experience has taught me that so many men lie about their height in their profiles. Why can't they be honest? I don't care if someone is slightly shorter than me. I just need to be prepared for this.

Getting your head off in pictures
You don't even know how many photos like that I have on my phone.

Having to awkwardly pose to take photos
I guess you have to suffer if you don't want to get your head cut off in photos.

Not being able to stretch your legs on a plane
How I wish I had the money to fly first class.

Are you a tall girl? Is there anything else you would add to the list?

Look of the Day: Pop of Lime

lime blazer

Happy Wednesday! I hope you're having a great week so far. Today I wanted to share with you outfit photos I took in Notting Hill about 2 weeks ago.

Although I've been living in London for almost 11 years, I still haven't properly explored the city. Hence, I've made it my mission this year to re-visit touristy places and to discover some hidden corners that London has to offer.

I started off by heading to Notting Hill and walking along quirky backstreets with colourful houses. When I spotted a pretty yellow one, I just had to stop and take some photos.

Stripes Galore

striped co-ord

I'm sure you will agree with me that stripes as a pattern will never go out of fashion. This season they seem to be even bigger and better thanks to designers and A-listers such as Ralph Lauren or Victoria Beckham who stepped out in her own design striped culotte co-ords a few weeks ago.

As a huge lover of stripes, I immediately fell in love with the stripey set I'm sporting on the blog today. I grabbed it at Tesco at the beginning of May while grocery shopping (oops, I did it again) and waited patiently for the weather to improve so I could show it off in its full glory.

The skirt and cropped top are sold separately for £16 and £10 respectively. For that price, I think they're basically an instant outfit dream to anyone who wants to channel the nautical trend this summer. However, I recommend going one size down as both pieces have a loose and comfy fit.

What do you think of this combo? Are you wearing stripes this season?

From My Mum's Wardrobe: Floral Wrap Dress

Floral wrap dress
Happy Friday! I hope you've had a great week.

Today I'm back with another look as I wanted to show you a floral wrap dress that I recently discovered in my Mum's wardrobe.

As it's not a secret that I love rummaging in my Mum's closest, I thought about introducing a regular 'From my Mum's wardrobe' series where I'd show you how I style different pieces I discover in her wardrobe. What do you think?

The dress I'm showing you today has been in my Mum's closet for about 2 or 3 years. It was neatly folded so I never paid much attention to it as I thought it was just a simple jersey top. Oh, I was so wrong.

The dress is incredibly comfortable and features a lovely floral pattern. There are also some golden details in it, which sadly you can't see on the photos.

My Mum once wore this dress with a simple pair of black courts but I decided to channel my signature style and pair it with yellow heels that you could see in one of my older posts here

Look of the Day: Yellow Jacket

yellow jacket

Today I wanted to continue with the yellow theme and show you a jacket that will surely serve me well over the coming months.

You may remember that in autumn I told you a story about how I tried to be a savvy shopper and used Tesco clubcard points to get a perfect trench coat (here). At the same time, I also treated myself to this yellow jacket as I could literally hear it screaming 'GET ME'. Oops...Now you probably think I have mental problems. I think I just get too overenthusiastic when I see clothes I like.

As I hadn't read product description before adding the jacket to the basket, I didn't realise that it was made from the same material as the trench coat. I assumed it was a bit heavier and would be appropriate for early winter.

When I received my package, I was a bit angry at myself for not checking the product details but I liked the colour and cut too much to take it back.

Now I think I've made a good decision to keep it as it is a perfect little jacket I can wear during colder spring and summer days. I'm sure there will be plenty of them here in London as it's not a secret that the British weather is fairly unpredictable.

What do you think? Have you ever bought something online without reading product description carefully?
