Preppy Style

preppy style

Hello everyone! Today I wanted to share with you a look inspired by my new patent shoes.

It's no secret that I'm a huge shoe lover. I literally feel my heart race every time when I see a gorgeous pair of shoes. It probably won't surprise you that my collection currently includes 103 pairs.

So when I recently spotted these patent shoes on H&M website, I knew they had my name written all over them. Plus, they were on sale so it would be a shame not to get them.

As the shoes have a preppy feel about them, today I decided to pair them with cigarette trousers and a tie fastening top. I also added the waterfall cardigan to keep chill at bay.

What do you think about today's look? Have you recently bought anything new?

Look of the Day - Culottes

How I styled culottes

As a fashion blogger, I couldn't fail to notice that the trend for culottes is still going strong.

I've owned these little khaki cropped trousers for a while but after wearing them once last March (here), I buried them deep into my closet as I wasn't sure how to style them without looking like a clown.

Now almost a year later I thought I should be more adventurous and give culottes another go. So, today I decided to team them with a chiffon top, grey coat and a simple pair of nude courts.

I'm not sure if I managed to rock the look but I have to say that I'm pretty happy with the end result.

What do you think about culottes? How do you style them?

Mother's Day Gift Ideas

With Mother's Day a little over a week away, I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you more about my Mum. She is my hero, my best friend and my guardian angel. I've always had a very special relationship with her and I can safely say that I am who I am thanks to her hard work.

My Mum used to work as a Russian language teacher but when I was little she sacrificed her career to bring me up and give me all her time and attention. She taught me good manners and explained what's good and what's bad. When I fell, she picked me up, wiped my tears and told me that everything will be OK.

She never said no when I woke her up at 7 o'clock in the morning and asked for a lift to school. She stayed up all night when I was ill and didn't want to be alone in the room.

My Mum is my rock solid pillar. She stands by me no matter what and gives great advice when I'm not sure what to do. I can talk to her openly about things, regardless of whether it's about my work or personal life. Although my Mum may be a little over protective at times, I know she does it because she truly cares about me.

When I was a kid, I loved drawing pictures and making cards for her. They weren't perfect but she still treasuers them to these days.

Now, as an adult, I always look for occasions to show her how grateful I'm to her for everything she does for me. So with Mother's Day fast approaching, I'm on the lookout for the best gift. Here are some of my picks.

Look of the Day: Jumper Dress

If you are one of my regular readers, you may remember that a few weeks ago I showed you a winter look featuring a jumper dress (here).

As I'm a firm believer that knitted dresses should be in every woman's wardrobe, today I wanted to show you another look with a jumper dress in action.

This time I opted for the colour block dress that I bought during my visit to Poland at the end of December. It was available in blue and red so I had a tough time deciding which one to get. Buying two dresses was sadly not an option, so I finally settled for the red version as it seemed a lot more fierce.

What do you think about this look? Do you wear jumper dresses?

Workout Clothes Edit

Happy Saturday! I hope you've had a great week.

I think I've mentioned it on the blog that I want to eat healthier and get in shape this year. As my love for chocolate and not so active lifestyle led me to weight gain, I've realised that I really need to make a healthy living change in my life.

So last month I joined Weight Watchers and started exercising 3-4 times a week.I've already managed to lose 4.4 lbs. Yay! :)

Although I work out from home, I've noticed that the clothes I wear make a huge difference in my attitude towards exercising.

With this in mind, I decided to scour the shops and look for new fitness gear to inspire myself to get more excited about my workouts.

Feeling Like a Lady in a Midi Skirt

feel like a lady with a midi skirt

Have you ever watched Ladette to Lady, a reality show that followed a group of ladettes, who were given an old-fashioned five-week course in learning how to become a 'lady'?

Although the show hasn't been on air for years, I suddenly thought about it when I shot these outfit photos.

I don't know whether it's a midi skirt or a blouse with the beaded collar but there is something about this look that makes me feel like a 'lady'.

Midi skirts can be tricky to pull off hence I don't wear them too often. As the name suggests, a true midi, like the one I'm wearing today, should ideally hit around mid calf. However, if you feel that this is not the most flattering place for a skirt to hit, you can  opt for a slightly shorter length as seen here or here

The only key thing to remember is to team your skirt with a fitted, tucked or cropped top to define the waist and make the volume on the bottom work. And viola, you can now look like a lady and shine like a star.

Look of the Day: Bold and Preppy

bold and preppy look

"Colours are the smiles of nature."
Lee Hunt

If you visit my blog from time to time, you know that I don't shy away from bright colours. This may seem a bit strange considering the fact that I'm a quiet person. I don't like drawing too much attention to myself and sometimes wish I could have an invisible cape like Harry Potter.

Despite my occasional social awkwardness, I still reach for bright hues as they positively change my desposition. They brighten my mood, heighten my attention span and make me feel a lot more energised.

So with this in mind, today I decided to wear a yellow coat that I got last year in New Look. (You could see it for the first time in my post here). I styled it with a cream blouse, black trousers and brogues for a preppy look.

Do you wear bright colours? Do they change the way you feel?

Online Dating: Musings of a Single Blogger

the truth about online dating

Today's post will be a lot different to everything that has appeared on the blog over the past year. The first draft was saved on my laptop for a while as I spent a lot of time contemplating whether I should hit the 'publish' button.

You must have guessed by the title that today I'll be talking about online dating. I know it's not something you may want to read so please bear with me while I vent and get some things off my chest.

I was a late starter when it comes to dating. I believed that education comes first so I spent my teens and early twenties focused on my studies. Once I graduated from university and got my first "grown up"  job at the age of 25, I decided that it was finally the right time to meet 'the one'.

However, as someone who was shy and didn't (and still doesn't) live a busy social life, I didn't have many opportunities to meet men. So, I decided to enter the world of online dating as it seemed like a perfect way to meet 'Mr Right'. Oh boy, I was wrong. I think I should write a whole book about my experience!

After 4 years of trying numerous dating sites and meeting players, time waters and scammers, I can safely say that internet dating has lost its purpose. What once was a great outlet for singles to meet like minded individuals to fall in love with and live happily ever after, has turned into a space for unicorn hunters.

It seems that most men who create their dating profiles don't actually know what they want. They will often meet a woman who technically ticks all their boxes, date her for a short while and then disappear into a thin air with no explanation.

Although this trick called 'ghosting' has been pulled on me so many times, I still haven't got used to the idea that some people don't have the guts to simply talk to you. What happened with the concept that honesty is the best policy?

Online dating gives people too many options. As it's so easy to date multiple people at the same time, men often refuse to put all eggs to one basket. Instead they prefer to string a few women along forgetting that we are humans with real feelings.

What's worst is the fact that some men use online dating to simply satisfy their sexual needs. Whilst there is nothing wrong with one night stands if they are safe and consensual, it annoys me when a man expects me to sleep with him just because he bought me coffee or dinner! I have my values and if I really wanted to meet a stranger to hook up, I would rather go to a club. It would be easier to meet someone that way and I wouldn't have to wonder if the person I'm meeting really looks like the one on the computer screen.

Although online dating has shattered my confidence and left me wondering whether there's something wrong with me, I still believe in true love. I'm sure that there's someone out there for me who will sweep me off my feet. I won't meet him on Match.com or Tinder but once our paths cross, I know that I'll have the happy ending I always hoped for.

Have you tried online dating? Do you know any success stories?

Look of the Day: Pink Coat

How to wear winter pastels

Happy Tuesday! I hope you have had a great start to the week. I'm sorry I was MIA yesterday. I had a crazy weekend and didn't get a chance to work on my blog.

But as they say that it's better late then never, today I wanted to show you a look that I put together the other day when I went shopping with my sister.

As it was raining on and off, I decided to brighten up the day (and mood) with my pink coat that debuted on the blog last month (here). It was love at first sight and I've been resisting the urge to wear it pretty much non-stop. I simply adore its colour because it's vibrant and makes me stand out from the crowd :)
