Simple Tips to Combat Dry Skin This Winter - Guest Post

Simple Tips to Combat Dry Skin This Winter

Last week I told you how much I don't like winter and shared with you the top buys to beat the chill.  Today I wanted to continue with the winter theme as I was approached by Freya Lowe, a Blogger and Adventure Seeker, who offered to give us some tips on how to combat dryness and achieve flawless skin during the colder months. Over to her...

Yes, it’s winter time now. It is true that this is the time of the year when you get the chance to flaunt your new jackets and coats, sip up hot chocolate and spend a little more time under those warm blankets. But again, it is the time for chapped lips, dry and itchy skin, red patches and cold and numb fingers. This means that it is time to change your skincare regime and use products that will help to keep your skin moisturised and supple.

So let’s see some products that you need to use and skincare tips that you need to follow.

Moisturise
There are no words to explain how important it is to moisturise your skin during the winter when the temperature drops down rapidly to extremely low. When it comes to your face, you must leave behind the light moisturising creams and go for the ones that you felt greasy during the summers. These heavy moisturisers, when applied in the morning, will help to keep your skin moisturised for the rest of the day. When it comes to your body, you can use body oils and body butters as they can prove to be good.

Exfoliate
When the winter sets in, your skin becomes dry. Sometimes it gets scaly too. As it is not advised to peel it off, you should use some mild scrub on your skin to remove the dry skin. The scrub can be used daily or weekly depending on the dryness of the skin.

Lip balms
The moment winter shows its first light, your lips start to get dry. Applying lip balm once in a day is never enough and you will see your lips wanting for more. So better keep a lip balm handy so that you can apply it whenever your lips become dry. This is something that you need to follow seriously as chapped lips are no good.

Hands and feet
When it comes to winter, people end up with dry & wrinkled hands and chapped feet. Now this is something that no one likes. So you need to take extra care of your hands and feet and pamper them. Make it a habit of soaking them in warm water. You should also visit salons regularly and enjoy manicures and pedicures. You must also make a habit to keep creams handy so that you can apply them whenever you want.

Sunscreen
Many people believe that sunscreens are to be used during the summer but it is also true that you cannot neglect them during the winter, too. The reason is very simple; the sun is still there out in the sky during the winter. So you need to protect yourself from the harmful UV rays. So make it a habit of applying sunscreen lotion with good SPF to protect your skin.

Water
Water is an important element that helps to keep your skin hydrated. So just like in the summer make it a habit of drinking enough water during the winter too. Drinking enough water means your skin will remain supple and moisturised from inside.

So follow this winter tips and keep your body in the best form throughout the season. Happy winter!!

Guess the Designer with Farfetch

Are you competitive? Do you love fashion? If you answered yes to these questions, then I've got something that may be just right up your street.

Farfetch, a destination for designer goodies who I worked with in the past, have just created a fun game for all fashion lovers.

Guess the Designer is an interactive quiz that tests your fashion knowledge. All you have to do is hover your mouse over a presented image to reveal a fashion item. Once you think you know who designed it, click on the names/options below to see if you have solved the mystery. I only guessed 5 names, oops. I hope that doesn't make me a bad fashion blogger ;)

Remember to be quick as each image slide is timed. The fashion experts that come out top in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place could win a £500, £300 or £200 voucher to spend at Farfetch. To be eligible to win the prize, you need to 'log in with Facebook'.

So, if you want to find out if you are a fashion expert or a fashion failure, click 'Play the game' tab below.

Good luck and let me know what your score was :)

A Great Haircut Can Change Your Life

"A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life"

Coco Chanel

It sounds like a cliche but a great haircut (or any kind of hair makeover) can really change your life. Don't you believe me? Then think of the last time you went to the hairdresser. Do you remember how you felt when you changed your hair style?

Well…I know that new hair won't get you the promotion you have been waiting for and won't make that cute guy who lives just round the corner fall head over heels for you. However, new hair can boost your confidence and give you more energy to try new things.

Our hair is our crowning glory. So it's not a surprise that when it looks good, we instantly feel better. We are more confident and empowered to step outside our comfort zone and take risks.

A great hair style can also take years off your face. It will hide wrinkles, define your jawline and enhance your cheekbones making you look fresh and youthful. Plus, as the  effect will be instant, you will never have to go through a painful and expensive anti-aging cosmetic procedure. Why would you consider it anyway?

I'm personally a huge fan of short hair and ever since cutting my hair into a bob, I never looked back. Although the style isn't easy to maintain and requires me to make regular trips to the hair dressing salon to give it more shape, I can't describe how amazing it makes me feel.

I still remember that when I chopped my long locks off, I couldn't stop looking at myself in the mirror. I'm by no means a vain person and I usually give mirrors a wide berth but my shorter hair made me feel like a new, improved version of myself. I became a lot more confident and started standing up for myself whenever I encountered negative people who tried to put me down.

So, if you have been longing to transform your life, I truly believe that you should start by changing your hair. It'll be a very liberating experience.

Has changing your hair affected your life? Have you ever drastically changed your hair style?

Jumper Dress: A Winter Must-Have

jumper dress

If I had to make a list of wardrobe items that I couldn't live without during winter time, a jumper dress would definitely be at the top.

Jumper dresses are fabulous as they come in all shapes and sizes.Try chunky cable knits for a relaxed look or a midi dress paired with a leather jacket for something a little more edgier.

Today I picked the bodycon style in a vibrant mustard shade which I love thanks to its roll neck which keeps me cosy during the chilly weather. Instead of teaming the dress with black tights like I always do, I decided to a make a statement in a nude opaque pair.

What do you think about the look? Do you wear jumper dresses?

Top Buys to Beat the Chill

"No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn"
Hal Borland

Winter is definitely my least favourite season. I'm already fed up with the cold weather and the fact that my hands and feet turn numb as soon as I leave the house. I don't want to sound melodramatic but I wish I could shut my eyes and wake up in March.

Oh well…It's not likely that I'll come into a possession of some magical powers to change the weather any time soon (insert a sigh emoticon) so I need to be patient and wait for spring. In the meantime, I've virtually scoured the shops to share with you the top buys to beat the chill in style.

Padded Jackets
Padded jackets are the best companions for blustery days. They are perfect for layering over everything from chunky jumpers to knitted dresses.

Look of the Day: Braving the Chill

Happy Wednesday! I hope you're having a great week.

I can't believe how cold it's been here in London over the couple of days. Although I grew up in Poland where temperatures drop to even -15 degrees Celsius in winter, I'm still not used to the chill.

So when I woke up yesterday and realised that it was -4 degrees Celsius outside, I wished I could crawl back to bed and hibernate until spring. Wouldn't it be amazing if humans could that!?

On cold days like these, I completely forget that I'm a fashion blogger who should photograph herself wearing pretty clothes. Unlike some fashionistas who pose to photos in skimpy dresses and open toe shoes, I wrap up warm and step outside hoping that I won't turn into a human icicle.

Look of the Day: 2 in 1 top

Today I wanted to quickly share with you an outfit I wore on my trip to Poland (my homeland) just after Christmas. As I had an informal meeting just after hopping off the plane and didn't want to make a pitstop at home to change, I decided to wear one of my trusted '2 in 1' tops.

Although '2 in 1' tops are not trendy anymore, they serve as a perfect alternative to a knitted jumper and shirt when you want to look smart without getting too hot. I think they look perfect when paired with jeans so they are my 'go-to' tops for an effortless smart causal look.

My Quirks - Be Yourself and Love Your Quirks

love your quirks

Let's imagine for a moment that we are all alike. Wouldn't that be boring?

I recently dug out a box full of my university notes and came across an essay I did on individuality as part of my Cultural Studies module. After all these years, it made quite an interesting reading and inspired me to write today's post.

To tell you the truth, there was a moment in my life when I felt like an alien. I was more mature than some people my age and had a different outlook on life. I was (and still am) the quiet type who preferred to stay in and read rather than go out and party until morning. I was also the only person in my social circle who didn't drink so some people said that I was weird.

Although hearing that made me question myself for a short while,I then realised that I'm completely normal and don't have to follow the suit just to fit in. After all, the world would be a dull place if we all looked and acted the same.

I can now safely say that I accept myself for who I am. I even love all my quirks which I thought I'd share with you as they define me and make me unique :)

1. I love eating strawberries with pasta
I know this probably sounds gross to you but it's an amazing dish. Simply mash the strawberries with some sugar and serve them with pasta.

2. I bite my lip
I can't help but bite my lip whether I'm working on my plans or getting nervous about something.

3. I have a serious sweet tooth
Chocolate, ice cream, cupcakes…I can eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

4. I have a 'scary' looking doll sitting by my bed
When I was 7, my dad got me a doll which I still have to these days. Some people say that it's freaky and looks like something you can see in horror movies. I don't agree with them and I'd like to give it to my daughter if I ever have one.

5. I have an OCD about my teeth
I carry a toothpaste and toothbrush with me everywhere I go and brush my teeth each time I have coffee.

6. I wear socks in bed
My feet get really cold so I always put my socks on before going to bed.

Be yourself, love your quirks

Look of the Day: Tube Skirt

tube skirt

Do you have a garment which makes you feel like million dollars as soon as you put it on? For me, it's this blue tube skirt which I bought a couple of years ago. You may have seen its yellow version in my post here

I've always been self-conscious of my body as I'm rather curvy but this skirt is really flattering. Despite its tube shape, it clings only to the right places making me forget about my big bum and wide hips :)

Look of the Day: Graphic Jumper

printed jumper

What do you think of printed jumpers? And no…I'm not talking about ugly Christmas novelty jumpers with lights and Christmas trees on but those with some pretty cute graphic designs.

I personally don't own many graphic jumpers but I think they are rather fun if you want to  add some jazz to your outfit. Although I know some people who wear them with basically anything from pencil skirts to tailored trousers, I tend to pair them with jeans for a laid back look.

My Daily Wear is Expanding

I'm excited to tell you that My Daily Wear has had a little makeover. It now features a new header and menu bar to reflect the changes coming up on the blog.

I set up My Daily Wear in September 2014 as a platform to document my personal style. It all started with a bus journey during which I thought about a meeting I had to attend the next day. I was mentally going through the contents of my wardrobe to see what I can wear when a sudden thought hit me that it'd be great if I could have a little online space where I'd be able to talk about my outfits.

When the blog was born, I had no expectations. I never thought that someone other than my Mum would actually read it. I can't describe how happy I was when I gained my first follower and saw a positive comment under my post.

Now 16 months later I feel like I've changed as a blogger and would like to take this space more seriously. I don't think I'll ever become one of those people who have made a career out of blogging but I'd certainly like my little site to grow.

With this in mind I decided to expand and cover more topics such as lifestyle and beauty. However, I'm not changing the name of the blog as fashion and my personal style will still remain its primary focus.

I truly hope that you will accompany me during the blogging journey and will keep checking this space for my lifestyle ramblings and beauty hacks :)

Heritage Inspired Outfit

You may remember that a few months ago I introduced you to Joe Browns (here), a British brand that is passionate about creating unique ranges of clothing that people love to wear day in day out.

Following the publication of the post, I won their blogging competition and received a £50 voucher to spend on the website. As soon as it arrived, I knew I would use it to get this riding inspired jacket that instantly caught my eye while I was working on my original post.

Made from a textured weave fabric, the blazer is perfect for adding a traditional charm to any outfit. It originally comes with an owl corsage but today I removed it as I wanted to try something different and style my outfit with shirt collar clips that I borrowed from my sister.

What do you think about this heritage jacket? How would you style it?
